Who we are

Second Chance is a private recovery support app for people working to overcome behavioral and substance addictions. We are based in Romania and follow European Union data protection law, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at support@2ndchanceapp.com.

What we collect and why

Account. When you sign up we collect your email address, password and a username. Your email is used only to sign you in and recover your account, and is never shown to other users. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never stored in readable form.

Onboarding and profile. You can provide a nickname, date of birth, the addictions you're working on, your reason for quitting, who you're doing this for, and optional estimates such as daily spending, hours per day or weekly gambling losses. We use these to personalize the app and show your progress, such as money saved.

How you found us. During sign-up we ask how you heard about Second Chance. If you choose a clinic and enter its code, your account is linked to that clinic. If you say a friend told you, we store the username you enter so the app can suggest a buddy request to them.

Check-ins and progress. Daily check-ins (urge level, optional mood and an optional reason) and your streaks are stored on our servers so you can see your progress over time.

Journal and relapse reflections. Journal entries and relapse logs (the addiction, your urge level at the time and anything you write) are stored on our servers and are private to you.

Community. Posts and replies you write are visible to other members along with your username and, if you are one, your Supporter badge. Reports you submit are seen only by our team.

Supporter applications. If you apply to become a Supporter, your application is stored and reviewed by our team only.

What other members can see

Most of your data is visible only to you. These are the exceptions:

  • Garden: your username or nickname, the quote on your tree and your current streak number. Your check-ins, journal and relapse details are never shown.
  • Community: your posts, replies, username and Supporter badge.
  • Buddy system: if you apply for a buddy, people browsing for a buddy can see your application (what you're working on, why you want a buddy, your story and your streak). Once you're paired, your buddy can also see your progress, the addictions you're working on and your spending estimate, which is used for your combined savings.
  • Buddy requests: someone who searches for your exact username can send you a buddy request.

Your email, date of birth, reasons for quitting, check-ins, journal and relapse logs are never shown to other members.

What clinics can see

If you sign up with a clinic code, the clinic can only see aggregate numbers: how many people signed up through its code and how many of them subscribed. Clinics never see your name, email, username or anything you track or write in the app.

What stays on your device

Some features work entirely on your iPhone and never send data to us:

  • Content protection uses Apple's Screen Time features to block adult and gambling sites. Nothing about your browsing leaves your phone.
  • Your Game Plan and the count of urges you've ridden out are stored only on your device.
  • Mini-games, Emergency Mode and Ride the Wave run on your device.
  • Notifications, such as community reply alerts, are created on your device. You can turn them off in the app or in iPhone Settings.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or use it to build advertising profiles. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking tools, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Third-party services we use

Supabase stores your account and app data securely and handles sign-in. It is GDPR-compliant and protects data with appropriate safeguards.

RevenueCat manages subscriptions. It receives your App Store purchase information and an anonymous customer ID to verify your subscription status.

Apple processes all payments. We never see or store your payment details.

Your rights under GDPR

You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, request its deletion, receive a copy of it, object to or restrict how we process it, and withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Because Second Chance deals with recovery from addiction, some of the information you give us can be sensitive health-related data. We only process it to provide the app to you, based on your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time by deleting your account.

To delete your account and all your data, go to Profile → App Settings → Delete My Account. This permanently deletes your login and everything we store about you. Data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app.

For any other request, contact us at support@2ndchanceapp.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your data is permanently removed from our systems, including from backups, within 30 days.

Children

Second Chance is not intended for anyone under 17. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify you within the app. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
