Terms of Service

What Second Chance is
Second Chance is a self-help and peer support app for people working to overcome behavioral and substance addictions, such as pornography, gambling, alcohol and nicotine. It includes daily check-ins, progress tracking, a private journal, relapse reflections, tools for difficult moments (Emergency Mode, Ride the Wave, your Game Plan and calming mini-games), the Garden, a buddy system, a moderated peer community and optional content protection.
Important: Second Chance is not a medical service, a therapy platform or a licensed counseling service. Nothing in the app, including content from other users, buddies or Supporters, is medical, psychological or clinical advice. If you are in crisis or need professional help, please contact a qualified professional or your local emergency number, or visit findahelpline.com to find support in your country.
By creating an account and using Second Chance, you agree to these terms.
Your account
You must be at least 17 years old to use Second Chance. By creating an account you confirm that you meet this requirement.
You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@2ndchanceapp.com.
Community, Garden and buddy rules
Second Chance has shared spaces where other people can see what you write: community posts and replies, the quote on your Garden tree, your buddy application, and anything you share with your buddy. In all of these you agree that:
- You will not share explicit descriptions of addictive behaviors or relapses, or content that could be triggering to others in recovery.
- You will not shame, judge, harass or demean other users.
- You will not give medical or clinical advice to other users.
- You will not promote any product, service, app or external platform.
- You will not post spam, off-topic content or anything unrelated to recovery and support.
- You will not share other people's private information, or try to identify or contact other users outside the app without their consent.
Violations may result in your content being removed, your account being suspended, or your account being permanently terminated at our discretion.
To report content that breaks these rules, use the report option available on posts and replies inside the app.
The Garden
Every member can plant one tree in the shared Garden and leave an encouraging quote on it. Other members can see your tree, your username or nickname, your quote and your current streak, which makes your tree grow. Your tree wilts if your streak resets, but it never disappears. Please only write quotes that are kind and safe for people in recovery to read.
Buddies and Supporters
You can apply to be matched with an accountability buddy. Your buddy can see your progress and the details described in our Privacy Policy, and either of you can end the partnership at any time. Buddies are fellow members, not professionals.
You can also apply to become a Supporter. Applications are reviewed manually and we may accept or decline any application. Supporters share their own lived experience and are not counselors or therapists.
Content protection
Content protection uses Apple's Screen Time features to block adult and gambling websites on your iPhone. It is a helpful barrier, not a guarantee: it may not block every site, app or workaround. It is deliberately hard to turn off, and disabling it requires a 24-hour waiting period. You are responsible for deciding whether to turn it on.
Clinic referrals
If a partner clinic invited you, you can enter its code during sign-up. Clinics only see how many people signed up and subscribed through their code. They do not see your identity or anything you write or track in the app. Using a clinic code is optional, and Second Chance is not a service provided by the clinic.
Subscriptions
Second Chance requires an active subscription to access the full app. Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store, and your payment is processed by Apple. We never see or store your payment details.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. To cancel, go to your iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Second Chance.
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
If you have subscription issues that are not resolved through Apple, contact us at support@2ndchanceapp.com and we will do our best to help.
Termination
You can delete your account at any time inside the app (Profile → App Settings → Delete My Account). This permanently deletes your account and the data stored on our servers.
We may suspend or terminate any account that violates these terms, harms other users, or tries to misuse or disrupt the app. We only do this when necessary to protect the community.
Limitation of liability
Second Chance is provided as-is. We work to keep the app reliable and your data safe, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage resulting from your use of the app, from content posted by other users, from interactions with buddies or Supporters, or from content protection failing to block something.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Romania and the European Union. Any disputes will be handled under Romanian jurisdiction, without affecting any rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country.
Changes to these terms
If we make significant changes to these terms, we will notify you within the app. Continued use of Second Chance after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
